Embedded Associated Primes of Powers of Square-free Monomial Ideals
An ideal I in a Noetherian ringR is normally torsion-free if Ass(R/I) = Ass(R/I) for all t ≥ 1. We develop a technique to inductively study normally torsion-free square-free monomial ideals. In particular, we show that if a squarefree monomial ideal I is minimally not normally torsion-free then the least power t such that I has embedded primes is bigger than β1, where β1 is the monomial grade o...
متن کاملColorings of Hypergraphs, Perfect Graphs, and Associated Primes of Powers of Monomial Ideals
Let H denote a finite simple hypergraph. The cover ideal of H, denoted by J = J(H), is the monomial ideal whose minimal generators correspond to the minimal vertex covers of H. We give an algebraic method for determining the chromatic number of H, proving that it is equivalent to a monomial ideal membership problem involving powers of J . Furthermore, we study the sets Ass(R/Js) by exploring th...
متن کاملComparing Powers and Symbolic Powers of Ideals
We develop tools to study the problem of containment of symbolic powers I(m) in powers I for a homogeneous ideal I in a polynomial ring k[P ] in N + 1 variables over an arbitrary algebraically closed field k. We obtain results on the structure of the set of pairs (r, m) such that I(m) ⊆ I. As corollaries, we show that I2 contains I(3) whenever S is a finite generic set of points in P2 (thereby ...
متن کاملArithmetical Rank of Toric Ideals Associated to Graphs
Let IG ⊂ K[x1, . . . , xm] be the toric ideal associated to a finite graph G. In this paper we study the binomial arithmetical rank and the Ghomogeneous arithmetical rank of IG in 2 cases: (1) G is bipartite, (2) IG is generated by quadratic binomials. In both cases we prove that the binomial arithmetical rank and the G-arithmetical rank coincide with the minimal number of generators of IG.
متن کاملProperties of Cut Ideals Associated to Ring Graphs
A cut ideal of a graph records the relations among the cuts of the graph. These toric ideals have been introduced by Sturmfels and Sullivant who also posed the problem of relating their properties to the combinatorial structure of the graph. We study the cut ideals of the family of ring graphs, which includes trees and cycles. We show that they have quadratic Gröbner bases and that their coordi...
